NAIJA BLOGGERS- THE BOOK

This is a call to all Nigerian bloggers worldwide to become a part of An anthology of the greatest works of Nigerian Bloggers-

A book called Naija bloggers Vol 1.

Nigerian Bloggers around the globe are requested to send in their stories or recommend great posts for the publication of a physical anthology, the first of its kind by any group of bloggers on any continent.

The categories are anecdotes, short stories, poetry, prose, drama and essays but there is room for as many sub-categories as are sent in as the book will also serve as a platform where artistes can showcase architectural/interior/exterior designs, photography, paintings as well as fashion and textile designs. Submissions are therefore welcome on any topic whether covered here or not.

There is only one condition- All submissions must have been blogged on or before Monday the 14th of May 2007.

Bloggers may submit up to 5 entries on any topic or issue but no blogger may have more than 3 works published. The Copyright of Articles remains the possession of the original writers.

The profiles of writers will be added to the anthology (those who wish to remain anonymous may do so, however)

Royalties will be discussed with selected contributors before publication.

The intention is to publish worldwide in stages, first stage being Nigeria and to make the book available all over the world.

Talks are on with publishers in Nigeria including Spectrum, Farafina and Khalam Editions.

It is expected that a compilation of the best of Nigerian minds on the internet will make fantastic reading, show a new and much needed side of Nigerians to the entire world, as well as give access to those who are not internet-inclined.

Submissions should be sent to nigerianbloggers@yahoo.com not later than Friday, June the 15th 2007 stating date of blogging and blogname/address.

Please note that submission does not automatically guarantee the publication of all or any of the works. The final selection will be made by respected Nigerian writers.

  1. I like the concept of the anthology. I also like the optimism of the volume 1. May there be many more volumes.

Anyway the short story thing. For my sins I am in the editorial board cd group for eti-osa. We decided to host a short story competition for v/i and lekki schools ss1 and ss2 students. It's pretty rushed, cos we're giving them two weeks to submit and then the judges about two to three weeks to judge.

  3. Shit men! laspapi you beat me to this idea... kai... why i come slow like dis ;-)))

Really, a while ago i toyed with this idea... it's already caught on well in the western hemisphere of blogsville. and it'd be a great concept to develop in Nigeria... I expect that the book will be a bestseller... interestingly there's an article today in the UK Guardian on "BLOOKS" - blog2book... books that emerge from the "foetuses" of blogs

  10. Wow! Nice concept. I had been thinking of something like this (not a book) but more along the line of a bloggers conference or something, where we all do something positive for our dearest nation.... this is a very good start.

I am on board with this idea.

  11. Laspapi, fab idea. I believe this will create more awareness for blogs, the internet and the IT industry in Nigeria. Expect my mail soon. I expect there'll be different categories/sections in the book ... because Naija bloggers have bloged around every topic imaginable on the planet.

  17. @ mimi- the bloggers conference is a great idea, mimi. I'll support that whenever it comes up. Thank you for stopping by.

@ tayo- you got the idea. There'll be as many categories as there are topics, and I've seen some really way out but brilliant posts. It doesn't matter how far-removed from the mainstream the topic is, once its good, it goes in.

@ twins- (lol) abeg, don't submit your entire blog o :D
Can you imagine what it would be like if everyone else did? I know many of us will have difficulty choosing but choose we must. Waiting to see your eventual decisions.

@ naija dude- that story with the police was a truly poignant one. I sat reading and imagining myself in your position.
Just send the ones you've picked to nigerianbloggers@yahoo.com

@ Storm- you're singing Wasiu's fuji? foggerrit men! Its going to be a rich collection, I can imagine, and for brilliance, it might easily be one of the best books out of Nigeria. There are too many brilliant writers, blogging. Let me see them say "Naija Bloggers" won't win every book award in Nigeria next year.

@ chicala- Thank you, chicala. Everyone's support is essential. Don't forget to submit early.

@ naija vixen- yayyyyy, vixen, you've always got my back. Thanks.

  35. I just saw this, because work has taken me away from the world of blogging for now.

Needless to say, I think this is a GREAT idea. I think you're going to get flooded with submisssions, so you're going to need to give a thought as to what criteria you're going to pick and choose entries for the book.

I'll be spreading the word and submitting a few entries from my blogs... if you need any help on ideas, you can ping me at the email address on my blog.

    Cheers, and good luck!

  39. Wow.. I'm really looking forward to this. I just started blogging a while ago and haven't really been consistent in what/when/how I blog. I also haven't come across that many Nigerian blogs; seems like everybody's here on Blogger! Maybe I should switch....hmmm...

Well, I'll spread the word on my page just in case. This sounds like a great idea... Can't wait to get my hands on the book..
