Word's going round the country's newspapers that Obafemi Martins, the "22 year old" Nigerian footballer for Newcastle FC in the English Premiership, was not in his car in Lagos when it was attacked by marauders. His friends had borrowed his car and were caught in a bad place.

Nigeria can be a fearful place atimes but still Martins didn't have to do falsehoods. He told the press in Britain, he was in the car and narrowly escaped death.

I've heard different versions on this. I don't know whom to believe again. Nigerian police are not known for their truthfulness, hiwever.

Shameful...i dont know who to believe...why would Obafemi want to tell lies though? And echoing Ugo on the Naija Police...new IG and all, they could certainly do without any more negativity?

I hope this is a lie for his sake! Meanwhile how was Who's Afraid of Wole Soyinka? Fill us in already!

@ refinedone- If it's true, it is shameful.

@ ugo- It's a strong story in a country fuelled on rumours, ugo.

@ vixen- The Nigerian police and negativity- arm in arm, dami.

@ nyemoni- "Who's Afraid..." raised the roof, nyemoni. I'll brief you soon. Which are you coming from?

@ uzo- Nigerians think he lied. The guys in the car were caught in some kind of incident and were injured. According to the story, the assailants had no idea it was his car. Martins didn't explain how he escaped injury if he was in the vehicle.
