Monologues...

The average Nigerian cannot live averagely- Koffi Nuel Idowu (Stand Up Comic & Singer)

There's been a fairly steady supply of electricity in Lagos...which makes everyone slightly uneasy. That's how damaged our collective psyche as citizens has become.

News is going round that members of the Police Force are arresting men with dreads and women dressed "indecently". I'm tired of calling the Nigerian Police, names, but this moronic command has to have come from a ...(no name calling)

Covenant University has made mandatory pregnancy and HIV tests compulsory for would-be graduands...The uproar in Nigeria over this is unprecedented.

There's a new catch phrase for Guinness from the TV ad. An older man says of his younger friend, "My friend, Udeme is a great man...". I like the phrase.

The Police are arresting criminals, touts and area boys en masse in Lagos now. The first serious clamp-down in 8 years (since before Bola Tinubu). Tinubu's adversaries say area boys (and crime) profilerated under his government. I would like to agree.

Alams (former governor of bayelsa) has been released from prison after robbing his state, blind. He received a hero's welcome.

Tafa Balogun (the Inspector General of Police who received a 6 month sentence for stealing 17 billion naira) said, "I'll bounce back".

The Metropoitan Police (The UK) wants former governor Ibori of Delta State to help with its criminal investigations into his affairs

Nigeria depresses me. We seem to plunge further into darkness with each new day. Do you supoose there is something we could do to stop at least some of this madness?

A lot of men seem to like the Udeme ad. I think its too serious and bland. However, from a creative point of view, it works.

Arresting the area boys - fab idea....

Now i have drawn a blank

@ for the love of me- I hang on to hope. Some will say, "We should start with ourselves" but that was what our parents believed and this country betrayed them.

@ uzo- I like it for that seriousness, uzo. And the fact that an "average joe" is considered great because he dared to pursue his dreams does it for me. The area boys- I think it's about time. I pray for Nigeria....

All of the news here just leaves me unsettled... Pray tell what will the Covenant University do if any one in the graduationd class is HIV positive or pregnant, do you know? Hmmmph!

As for the Udeme Ad, I just liked the man's voice... gravelly and lovely...;-)

LOL@ I'll bounce back, is that a promise. I read somewhere that Alama...(i can pronounce it,thanks to a friend, but cant spell it), anyways, i digess, i read he'll forever be remembered as a criminal, who gave the heroes welcome?Good thing they're arresting the areaboys, they're super annoying. I watched the guinness, it was nice. And the arresting of people doesnt make sense to me oo.

@ 'moni- the school won't graduate anyone with HIV or who's pregnant. It's a police state.

@ 'sewa- arresting people, child of beauty? That's the way its always been here. They just notched it up a bit.

Alarm bells ringing very loudly. Sharia state anyone?

The school says if you are HIV positive, you will graduate only after you have received your "healing", I don't know the fate of the pregnant one, maybe after you marry and have a baby, you can come back for your certificate, who knows, NACA has been trying to reach the university authorities to no avail. It is madness walai.

@ for the love of me, like really? maybe after the pregnant girls either abort the pregnancy or give the child up for adoption they would get their certs? ;-)

Thank Goodness I thought it was just me.NEPA refused to take light for 3 days and I became so uneasy. My neighbour called to find out if 'we were safe'.Even my driver said...madam e be like say something don spoil for NEPA office-o.This kain light wey dem dey give us so when them don repair the tin wey spoil them go take back their light.
Can you just imagine what Nigeria has turned her people into?No one can think straight any more.

@ noni- sounds like that, doesn't it?

@ for the love of me- They're not anwering NACA? Basically, what the school is doing is an infringement of the fundamental rights of its students. You can't do tests on people against their wishes.

@ moni- absolute power corrupts absolutely.

@ jola- na so!

@ mrs somebody- your driver's sense of humour is on-point. What have they turned us into? Half the time, you're looking at a lamp shade or bulb, thinking, "ok, they're going to 'take it' now. This is too good to be true".

Finally, they are arresting all them touts...hopefully,REAL incentives to get the young 'uns off that lifestyle will be implemented...we dont want the next generation taking up the reins...

This is my third comment on one post. You are fast becoming my best blogger. Anyway, CU has denied all allegations, all students are being allowed to graduate, they say. They also are angry that no one tried to get their own part of the story. Naca sent two letters to them by courier, both stamped "received" both went unreplied. I dont know which is more worrisome, the allegations or their denial.
There will be no comments from me for at least two weeks.

So it wasnt just me that was wondering about the light. We went to my neighbours and had to make sure that it wasnt just us oh.
The thing about Alameiyeseigha really upset me but that's the trend...and all because he returned a couple billion.

Have to agree with Uzo on the Guinness ad. Works creatively but I dont know how it makes any sense.

Thinking about coming for "Omo'do and Orisa".

Thanks for stopping by my blog btw.

@ naija vixen- very true, vixen. It's not enough to remove them off the streets, they must keep them occupied and gainfully too

@ for the love of me- you actually kept me abreast of the CU events. I had no idea that the university had backed down. I also have no doubts that the school tried to force these tests on their students. As a matter of fact, the pregnancy test stipulation is part of the handbook given to students. They would deny it because they got bad press but I have a relative in the school who would tell of how the top dog would rail against the students in open assembly if angered, asking how much their parents possessed in wealth etc

see, you mustn't write that I am fast becoming your best blogger. I have people obsessed by me who will sit and watch your site by day and through the night. Thank you for that, though, made me blush. If you don't comment, Mohammed will go to the mountain.

i have serious fear for this police situation in Nigeria cos i remember once i was about 16 and was almost swept by police men for 'loitering' at the airport.(operation igba ile) i explained calmly that my father had gone in to help my mum check in.before i could say jumping jack flash i was in the police van with other girls.
my dad came out in time and completely lost it. only time i ever saw him violent.

i haven't taken to the Guinness new ads, it takes the fun out of drinking, wetin concern beer man with greatness?
meanwhile, im a first timer here and i like.
